Gordon 'Binky' Freeman Butts, 91

Port Morien, N.S.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of out beloved dad, grandfather, and brother Gordon Freeman Butts 'Binky' of Port Morien, at the age of 91. He was the son of the late Harvey and Barbara Butts.

“Da” – “Poppie” had a great love for his family. He always enjoyed spending time with each one of them in their own special way, especially Friday and Saturdays with the boys. Da was a Heavy Duty Mechanic by trade and worked a long-enjoyed career at the Fortress of Louisbourg from where he retired. He could also be found in his backyard working on cars with his boys, he could fix anything with an engine. Da had a great love for antique vehicles, especially his ’49 Ford. He often attended car shows and took part in Morien Memories parades. Although not a man of many words we could always count on him for advice when we asked for it.

He will be greatly missed by his six children, Lorraine, Gordon (Brenda), Harvey (Arlene), Stan (Linda), Jackie (Debbie), and Marion (Greg); seven grandchildren, Neila, Becky, Leanne, Tara, Kyle, David, and John, fourteen great grandchildren; as well as three great-great grandchildren; brothers Charlie (Barb) and Eric (Donna); and several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Annie (Cathcart) Butts, parents Harvey and Barbara Butts, brother Joe, sister June, and his brothers and sisters in law.

He was humble and kind, in interest of honoring his wishes there will be no visitation. Graveside service to be held at a later time.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Graveside service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in Blackbrook Cemetery, Port Morien.
