Bryant Anthony Cann Obituary

Bryant A. Cann

Reserve Mines, NS

It is with deepest sorrow that we, the family of Bryant Cann of Reserve Mines, announce his passing on June 24, 2025, in the Glace Bay General Hospital. Born on November 17,1929, Bryant was the son of the late John and Georgina (Andrews) Cann. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his loving daughter Debbie (Howard) Amero, the light of his life, his granddaughter, Cheyenne McLean, his son-in-law Mark Duffney, brothers-in-law Normie Coffin and Fred Simms, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Rhoda, his precious daughter Bev Duffney and grandson-in-law Ryan, sisters Claire MacLean, Verba Cann and Louella Cann, brother Everett Cann, brothers-in-law Neil MacLean, Bill Somers, Darrell and James 'Buddy' MacMullin, sisters-in-law Dorothy Somers, Ethel Simms, Amelia Coffin and Sylvia MacMullin. We know Bryant is happy to be reunited with family and his four-legged companion Mindee.

Bryant was a drummer for over 50 years, playing with various bands throughout Cape Breton including the popular 50’s orchestra, The Acadians and his brother’s band, The Everrett Cann Orchestra. He enjoyed his summers spent with family at the “Lollipop” in Loch Lomond. Bryant also enjoyed his early morning visits to Tim Hortons with the “Tim’s Gang” and their visits with him at home and in hospital. He was also a life-long member of the Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club. Bryant was a quiet, gentle man who was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

We will be forever grateful to his family doctor, David Ley and staff, Anne and Lynne, the doctors, nurses and staff of 3 South at the Glace Bay General Hospital, EHS, Cape Breton County Homemakers, VON, Cape Breton Palliative Care, Hospice Cape Breton and everyone who assisted in his care, especially his nurse Linda Murphy, niece Donna Collins, nephew Brennan MacLean and close family friend Roxanne MacEachern.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at 1 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, with Lily MacDonald officiating in T. J.
