Mary ‘Joann’ (Hynes) Dauphinee

With heavy hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our Mom, Nanny, Sister and Aunt, Mary ‘Joann’ (Hynes) Dauphinee, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Olive ‘Gertie’ Hynes.

Joann spent her working years as a waitress at the House of Wong in Glace Bay and Swiss Chalet. In her pastime, she enjoyed going to bingo with her sisters. Joann was happiest while in the kitchen, cooking and baking for her loved ones. Not a birthday went by without a batch of her special gingerbread men. The light of her life were her grandchildren. She spent many hours at hockey rinks, baseball fields, basketball courts and bowling alleys cheering them on.

Joann is survived by her sons Jody (Annette) Dauphinee and Ryan (Shirley) Jenkins; grandchildren Jordan (Carly), Trevor (Shelby), Caelynn, Branden (Abby), Jodi, MacKenzie, and Cam; great granddaughter Scottie, and Trevor and Shelby due in July. She is also survived by her sisters Betty (Bob) Fitzsimons, Chris Nash, Leesa (Ralph) Smith and Wendy (Steve) Getz; brother Jack (Carrie) Hynes; sister-in-law Judy; along with many adoring nieces and nephews.

Joann was predeceased by her daughter Natosha Hynes; husband Buster Jenkins; brothers Billy and Wayne Hynes; and brother-in-law Fabe Nash.

A service will be held at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay (902-849-4199), on Wednesday, June 25th at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Mom during this difficult time. To Linda and Shane, your care and compassion will not be forgotten.
