Jeff O’Brien, 54

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Jeff O'Brien, age 54 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Doug and Sally (MacDonald) O’Brien, Gardiner Mines, N.S.

Jeff was multi-talented when it came to any kind of talent using his hands, whether that was beating the drums, picking his guitars, drawing his own creations, or doing mechanical work in his backyard. Friday and Saturday nights were spent with his best friend, Brid, mastering and recording their musical creations with ‘Joe Fraser’ aka his son Mitch by their side. Jeff’s proudest accomplishment was his son Mitch as well as Jeff’s pride and joy, and the light of his life was his granddaughter Ana, who adored her Papa Jeff tremendously.

Along with his parents, Doug and Sally, Jeff is survived by a son, Mitch O’Brien (Gen); granddaughter, Ana O’Brien; brothers, Jamie O’Brien and Darrin O’Brien (Belinda); he is also survived by his lifelong friend and mother of his son, Carrie O’Brien; nephews, James Johnathon, Bradley, and niece, Krista; as well as grandnephews Jackson and Jonah.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 12 to 2 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Macleen presiding, all taking place in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).

Family flowers only, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The O’Brien family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and the medical team of the Halifax Infirmary, ICU, and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and to the team in ICU for their care and compassion shown to Jeff during his illness. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists.
