Leo Gerald Kelley Obituary

Leo Gerald Kelley

January 5, 1945 – June 1, 2025- Halifax, NS.

It is with profound sadness that the family of Leo Gerald Kelley announces his peaceful passing on June 1, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by loved ones. He fought a courageous battle with dementia. Leo left this world with the same quiet strength and grace that defined his life.

Born in the Town of Pictou, Nova Scotia, on January 5, 1945, Leo was the beloved son of the late Mary (Molly), and Daniel Kelley. He carried with him the values of hard work, kindness, and unwavering family devotion throughout his life.

Leo was a devoted husband to his wife of over 50 years, Bev Kelley and a proud, loving father to Timothy Kelley (Katie), and Bradley Goodwin-Kelley (Michael). His greatest joy was his role as “Grampie” to grandchildren Chase, Halee (Jake), and Paige, and “Great-Grampie” to Lucas and Liam.

He is predeceased by his beloved sisters Nora MacLean (Laverne), and Jean Lawlor (Gerard), and leaves behind his cherished sister Phoebe Cleary (Duane), and brother John Edward (Trudy), Leo also held a special bond with his foster sisters: Isabel Chisholm (Archie). Mary Williams (Stephen), Debbie Wallace, and Darlene Meyers (Alan). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were deeply loved.

A hard-working man through and through, Leo spent most of his life in the dump truck and hauling industry. Leo's work ethic was matched only by his loyalty to those he served and loved. Outside of work, Leo was passionate about his family, sports, and spent many years coaching both Halifax Hawks Midget A & AA hockey teams and local youth softball teams, inspiring countless young athletes. He also enjoyed a great game of golf with his buddy Paul. He was an amateur guitar player and never missed a chance to take a spin on the dance floor with his signature two-step.

Leo was a man of few words but deep feeling — a loving, kind, and generous soul who always made time to listen, who never judged, and who gave his love freely. His laughter, and his steady presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of Leo’s life will be held on Monday June 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, located at, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS (Bayers Lake).
