Anna Maurina Canova Obituary
Anna Maurina (Fraser) Canova, 75
Dominion, N.S.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Anna Maurina (Fraser) Canova, who passed away peacefully at home on May 28th, at the age of 75. Maurina was the daughter of the late Michael & Elizabeth (McGean) Fraser. Born in Glace Bay, she fondly recalled growing up on Connaught Avenue with her six siblings.
After graduating high school, Maurina began working at the Royal Bank in Glace Bay before committing to being a devoted employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia for many years. She formed many cherished friendships at work and shared countless moments of laughter. After becoming Mrs. Canova in 1971, Maurina became a dedicated member of the Dominion Italian Hall. She was a proud committee member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and her presence will be missed.
Maurina created a home that provided great comfort and care for her husband, children, and grandchildren. With her gentle touch, she loved making waffle cookies, apple pies, and Sunday dinners for her family to enjoy. Maurina also enjoyed being mischievous. Whether it was through playful pranks or clever remarks, her sense of humor brought laughter to many. Maurina leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and strength. Her pretty smile and sweet voice will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Sheldon Canova, along with their three children: Christian (Maureen Mohr), Alicia, and Anna (Kenneth Porter). She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Spencer Fraser, Julia, and Eva Porter, all of whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her sisters, Elaine (Jude) Kelly and Anna Lee (Robert) Kazamel, whose love and compassion were of great comfort to her. She is also survived by her two brothers in law, Frank and Paul Canova, her sister-in-law Jane Ann (Fraser) White; along with many nieces and nephews with whom she made many cherished memories.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers John and Edison Fraser, her sisters Mary Fraser and Teresa (Luc) LaCroix, niece Michelle LaCroix, parents in law Antonio and Georgina Canova, sister-in-law Mary Canova.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Maharaj, Dr. Hall, Dr.
Connell, staff of Palliative Care, Home Care, Dominion Pharmasave, The Golden Girls, Cabot Physiotherapy, along with many other healthcare professionals who provided great care and support to Maurina.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11am, Monday, June 9th, 2025, at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
