Wesley Delbert Ferris Obituary

Wesley (Wes) Ferris, 55, of Waverley by way of Jeddore and Cloverdale BC, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025.

Family was everything to Wes, whether you were related by blood or not. He leaves behind many who loved him deeply: his beloved partner, Larry; his sons, Mitchell and Matthew, of whom he was so proud; and Susan.

He is also survived by his mother, Dianne; and his sister, Verena (Rob); sister-in-law, Catherine; his nieces and nephews, Madison, Hunter, Carter, and Sophie; and his great-nephew, Magnus. Wes’s family also included Amy, Laurie, and Nick, and grandkids Landon, Carter, Casey, and Simon along with Susan’s partner Glenn.

Wes was predeceased by his father, Stanley; his sister, Christine; and his brother, Michael .

Capturing Wes’s life with words is difficult because he was so many things to so many different people. Whether he was enjoying a drink on the deck in Waverley with his friends Cindy, Ricky, Darlene, and Kenny from Jeddore, or playing cards with his neighbours Janet and Terry, one thing was certain: if Wes was around, there would be a great story and plenty of laughter.

Retail was Wes’s career. From his early days at K-Mart to over 30 years with Winners, he worked at many locations across the country—from the West Coast to the East Coast. It was at Winners that another important chapter of his life began. On his very first day, he was immediately smitten with his store manager, Susan, who wore a navy-blue dress with gold buttons—a detail he would never forget. Susan would become his wife, the mother of his children, and his life-long friend.

At Winners, Wes was known as an excellent manager, colleague, and friend. He loved to chat with “his girlfriends” and be part of the team’s many outings and events. Throughout his career, he formed lasting friendships with people from every stop along the way.

Wes and Larry went annually to Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba, and while he loved a good piña colada and a walk on the beach, Wes always made sure to bring much needed clothing, personal items, toys and medical supplies for the locals they had personally connected with.

Wes’s family often joked that he received frequent flyer points at Tommy Hilfiger, and his Yeti and shoe collections were impressive to all who knew him. He liked things neat and tidy and that extended to his appearance – shabby chic was never his aesthetic!

Wes loved good food and good times, and we hope he is enjoying a perfect slice of chocolate cake from The White Spot wherever he is.

He will be forever missed. As Wes said, “It’s one day at a time.” Rest easy, our dear friend—we’ve got it from here. Be at peace.

Wes’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General ER and ICU who took such good care of Wes during his final days.

Visitation will be held on June 7, 2025 from 6pm-8pm, followed by a Celebration of Life on June 8, 2025 at 3:30pm, in T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS, B3S 1C4.

Wes’s wishes were for those attending the visitation and service to don bright colours in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation in Wes’s name. Thank you.
