John (Soup) Francis Kendall Obituary
John Francis Kendall
Dominion, N.S.
The world lost an amazing soul on May 25, 2025. John Francis Kendall passed away at Victoria Haven nursing home following a day surrounded with family love. Born and raised in Dominion, Nova Scotia, he always held his hometown with great pride. A meatcutter by trade, he owned and operated Midtown Grocery in his favourite little town. John spent much of his time in their summer home located in Englishtown, Cape Breton. He loved his time in his special place while fishing and spending time with the wildlife that visited him daily. There are countless pictures across the world of John fly fishing at the channel and feeding two beautiful bald eagles who he befriended. The trust these majestic birds had in him represents the demeanor and powerful presence of John.
John met the love of his life, Dorothy Smith in 1981 and they created a lifetime of love and devotion while raising their children. Johns love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was immeasurable. He always greeted any of us entering the home with his devilish grin and a witty comment to create a laugh. His presence was quiet but extremely strong and loud at the same time.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dorothy (Smith), his son and best friend Russell ( Lucy), his daughters Nicole and Alicia. Brothers David (Philomena) and Peter (Donna). Sister Angela (McKinnon). Six beautiful grandchildren that he loved so much. Emilie, Logan, Madeline, Hannah-Blayre, Zachary, and Katie. He is also survived by his two precious great-grandchildren, Ellie and Wilson, and brother-in-law Vic Hamilton.
He has been predeceased by his parents, Mary and John Kendall, sister Jeanne and brother-in-law Mick McKinnon.
Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay, N.S. Granting John’s wishes a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Hope for Wildlife
