Jesse Lloyd, 73

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jesse Lloyd, 73, of Glace Bay, on May 2nd, 2025, at Taigh Na Mara. He passed with his loving family by his side.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Melvin and Annie (MacDonald) Lloyd.

Jesse grew up in Port Morien, one of fifteen children; even after he started a life of his own, he made sure he returned to Port Morien every week for his Mother’s Sunday meal. A proud mechanic by trade, Jesse was always passionate about cars. He worked in several garages over the years until his retirement from Canadian Tire in 2018. If anyone ever had issues with their car, the first person that they would go to was Jesse; and he would always be there to help them without questioning a thing.

He loved his antique car shows, stock car racing, Elvis Presley, dancing, and his girls. Jesse had his girls spoiled; he would do anything for them. They were his pride and joy. The extent of this showed in the past few years when Darlene had to learn how to pump her own gas. However, when Tammy started to drive – he made sure she knew how to pump her own gas, change a tire, and drive in the snow. He finally added a son to the mix when Tammy married Kevin and passed on his ways (and the strength) to deal with a handful of girls. If Kassidy and Katherine wanted to come to Cape Breton to be with their nanny and poppy, he would drive from Glace Bay to Antigonish to meet them halfway to take them home. He was always telling them that if anyone was giving them any trouble to tell him and that he would handle it.

He was the proud owner of a blue 440 1970 GTX for many years and he would always say that he would get one again after he retired just so that he could beat Henry in a drag race just like old times.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Darlene (Burns) Lloyd. who were married on May 19, 1979, and were never seen apart after that. His daughter, Tammy (Kevin) Fahey, and his two granddaughters Kassidy and Katherine (Brennan); six brothers, Louie (Valerie), Crawfie (Diane), Joey, Melvin (Phyllis), Heckie (Dianne), and Henry (Linda); three sisters, Lila Walker, Yvonne (Tony) Hynes, Emma Jean (Lawrence) Burns; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Blair), Ruthie (Albert), Michelle (Kevin), and Laura Lee; and brother-in-law, Lawrence (Emma Jean); and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Laurie, Alex, and Shane; sisters, Gloria Steinhoff, Mary Lou Stephens; sisters-in-law, Sherry, and Jean; brother-in-law, Johnny. Mother-in-law Theresa Burns.

Cremation has taken place, and Jesse is back home where he always wanted to be. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 1 p.m. in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Reception to follow in Branch 78 Royal Canadian Legion, Neville St., Dominion, N.S.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Taigh Na Mara who became our second family for the last year and a half. He loved his girls who made the place feel like home. Also, a thank you is extended to palliative care for the care that was given to him.

Jesse fought a hard battle until the very end. He was a kind and caring man and knowing him was a gift to all, he was deeply loved by everyone. He never missed a day saying that he loved his wife, who spent every single day with him until the end. He will be forever missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
