Peter Coade Obituary

Beloved family man, friend, & the voice of Maritime weather

1942 – 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Coade, retired Halifax meteorologist and much-loved Maritimer, on May 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Known for his warmth, good humour, and a lifetime spent sharing his love of weather with viewers and listeners across the country, Peter will be deeply missed by all who knew him—not just for his remarkable professional achievements, but for the extraordinary person he was.

Peter’s contributions to broadcasting and meteorology have been widely celebrated. His career was one of dedication and distinction, and his name is synonymous with trusted and cheerful weather updates for decades. However, for all of his achievements, Peter was most proud of the life he built off the air.

Peter was, first and foremost, a family man. He adored his family with all his heart and would light up any room when he spoke about them. His love extended far beyond bloodlines. Peter valued his friends like family, effortlessly drawing people in with his kindness, sense of humour, and authenticity.

Peter had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, who brought him joy and companionship throughout his life. He had a soft spot for every wagging tail. His deep compassion extended into his love for camping at Rayport Campground, where he bonded with family and friends over shared campfires, games of washer toss and moments of peace and quiet under the awning on the deck with his beloved wife, Donna.

Peter’s coworkers, viewers and loyal listeners will remember his cheerfulness, wit, and optimism that brightened both clear days and stormy skies. For them, he was a trusted voice through countless snowy mornings, rainy afternoons, and starry nights over the years.

Peter leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and loyalty. He is survived by sisters, Jessie Fox and Bridget Purcell; son, Graham (Cindy Dunn); daughter, Heather (Chris McNulty); grandchildren, Ben, Graham, Sophie & Lauren; great-grandchildren, Annelyse, Michael and Mia.

He was predeceased by his wife, Donna; parents, Jessie and Vincent Coade; brother, Paul; and sister, Jane.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date. In honour of Peter, friends are encouraged to share a drink, cheer on the Leafs and carry an umbrella - just in case. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Feed Nova Scotia, Christmas Daddies or any animal shelter.

“Good night, folks—clear skies ahead.”
