Yvonne Marie Billard Obituary

Billard, Yvonne

Glace Bay, N.S.

It is with deep sadness that we the family regret to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Yvonne Marie Billard, age 79 of Glace Bay Nova Scotia.

Yvonne’s greatest joy was her family and the special times they would all gather, especially Christmas. Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice Carlson.

Yvonne’s greatest passion was her gardening and took great joy in all her flower gardens where she spent countless hours shaping it just the way she wanted. She was also a wonderful skater who spent many evenings at the Minor’s Forum flying around on her racer skates. She was an avid bowler for many years and was especially proud of the six years she spent bowling and commentating on ATV. She was at the time, the only woman in the 357 club. At the ripe age of 65, she began rollerblading and playing women’s hockey.

She loved spending time with her four boys and her grandchildren, fishing, and swimming on Water Street Beach along with her summers in Mira and a great game of cards. Yvonne’s kindness and generosity were immeasurable, and her presence will be missed tremendously. Her time was often spent visiting and bringing a smile to everyone she met.

Yvonne was a very vibrant and active lady. She worked with the school board for 14 years transporting children to and from school and provided foot care for many years. She also crocheted and knitted children’s hats and clothes that she sold at local markets where she met countless friends.

Yvonne is survived by her sons Curtis (Karen), Rodney (Arlene), Conrad, Raymond (Krisy); Ray Billard, father to her boys whom she shared a close bond with; grandchildren Christine (Colin), Brandon, Brittany (Owen), Taylor (Steve), Spencer (Faith), Riley, Brady, and Emma; great grandchildren Tommy, Charlotte, and Georgia; her siblings Leone, Irene, Mabel, Faye, Albert, Ronnie (Laurie); sisters-in-law Carol and Penny; along with several nieces and nephews.

She will also be missed by her close friends Dianne Munden, Anne Brenan, Ron Cote, Robert, and Nan Deveaux.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Richard and Gerald.

As per her wishes cremation has taken place and visitation will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in TJ Tracey’s Cremation and Burial specialists, 370 Reserve St, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Funeral Mass to follow at 2pm at St. Anne’s Parish, Main Street Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. A reception at TJ Tracey will follow.

A special thank you to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital ER Department and Palliative Care Service for their kindness and compassion shown to our mother during her brief stay.
