It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, brother and uncle, John Alexander (Sander) MacMullin.

Sander was born on January 7, 1938, in Piper’s Cove, NS, to the late Malcolm and Mary (MacKenzie) MacMullin.

Left to grieve are his wife of 58 years, Norma (Lambert) and his daughter, Shauna.

Sander was the oldest of 16 children. He will missed by his brothers – Roddie, Angus and Jackie, and his sisters – Sarah, Barbara, Dena, Delores, Florence, Lucina, Theresa, and Arlene. Sander is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Ave (Ken) Lavoie and Louise Lambert, his brother-in-law, Mardy Lambert and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Sander was predeceased by his brothers, Norman, Raymond, Hector and Lyle, brother-in-law Bert Lambert and his special sister-in-law, Sheila Lambert.

Sander began his career with the Air Force and worked for Cape Breton Novelty for most of his career until an injury forced him into an early retirement.

Sander was a man a few words, but he always enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Piper’s Cove.

Sander was a hard worker and a very patient man. There was nothing he could not fix, and he would never throw anything out for fear he might need it some day.

Sander embraced his Scottish heritage and loved listening to fiddle music and speaking in Gaelic. His passion was cars – talking about them, repairing them, and keeping them clean. He always looked forward to sharing a feed of lobsters with his brothers in the summertime. Sander also enjoyed creating his stain glass that he worked on as a hobby.

Sander overcame so many health challenges over the years, especially in this last year. He was a fighter, always meeting these challenges with courage, strength, and resilience, never complaining, and never losing his sense of humor.

Thank you to the staff of 4B (CB Regional Hospital), 4 North (Glace Bay Hospital), Harbourstone and An Cala, along with our family and friends who provided us with endless support and kindness as we navigated through this journey along with Sander.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 6 to 8 pm at TJ Tracey's, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at St Marguerite Bourgeoys, 40 Cabot Street, Sydney, NS, Reception and Internment to follow.
