Karl Moyle Ernst Obituary

August 21, 1942 – April 12, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Karl Ernst announce his passing on April 12, 2025, in the presence of close family.

Karl was born on August 21, 1942 to the late Verna (Broome) and Clarence Ernst of New Ross.

Karl grew up with his older brother, John, younger brother, Ron, and younger sisters, Pauline and Sandra.

The Ernst family spent most of their lives on their farm located on the Walker Road in New Ross. Karl attended a one room school house in New Ross and then entered the work force at a young age. Karl lived his youth to the fullest with his brothers and close friends.

Karl is survived by his son, Dennis (Carrie) Ernst; daughter, Nadine Williams; grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan & Cody; his brother, John; sisters, Pauline & Sandra; brother in-law, Grant MacLaughlin; sister in-law, Phyllis Hughes; and a very long list of nieces and nephews.

Karl was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Paulette; and his brother, Ron.

In 1964, Karl met the love of his life, Paulette. Karl and Paulette got married and grew their family, bringing their 2 children, Dennis and Nadine into the world. Karl and Paulette settled their family in Upper Tantallon, NS. Later in life, Karl was blessed with his grandchildren, Cody, Ryan and Jordan. He was proud of his whole family and held them all close to his heart.

Karl lived his life with a desire to work hard and do anything he could for others. He had a strong, respectful presence and lived with a great sense of humor. Karl’s career was spent doing service work as a mechanic. He spent years at Trainer’s Automotive and moved onto the Department of Highways where he finished his career. In addition to his mechanic career, Karl also worked the family land in New Ross, processing firewood, cutting and selling logs and producing maple syrup.

Karl dedicated his life to building a secure future for his family. He was like a second father to many of his nieces, nephews and close friends, especially Christine Kettner and Jason Ernst. Karl worked his land in New Ross his whole life making it enjoyable for his family and friends.

Passionate about the outdoors, Karl enjoyed not only working in it but vacationing in it as well. Karl was an avid camper and travelled the Maritimes staying in various campgrounds. He was very proud of his final camp site that he made on Indian Lake in New Ross calling it The Lake Lot. He spent the last summer sitting by the lake watching the beavers swim by, while reminiscing about his late wife, Paulette.

Karl’s love for dogs was well known; he loved his dogs unconditionally and used them for therapy over the years - both Ben and Rudy lived great lives by his side.

Karl will be remembered for his loving personality, strong friendly presence, and his ability to engineer and build whatever he put his mind to.

A celebration of life will be held on May 11,2025 from 2-5 pm at the Hubbards Barn Association, located at #57 Hwy, NS Trunk 3, Hubbards NS. (Parking is very tight, please consider carpooling).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elderdog Canada (info@elderdog.ca) and or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in loving memory of Karl Ernst.
