Florence Tucker, 85
New Waterford, N.S.
It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Florence Tucker in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Florence was the daughter of the late Martin and Helen (Donovan) McPherson of New Waterford, N.S.
Prior to her husband Jim’s passing almost five years ago, Florence was active and involved with the Army Navy Ladies Auxiliary in New Waterford, where she held a Lifelong Membership. She was an avid dart player and travelled around Nova Scotia participating in multiple tournaments. Florence also loved a great game of Bingo and made many long-lasting friends whom she continued to stay in contact with throughout the years. Sunday night was card night at Dollys’ and she and Mart would be counting down the hours and looking forward to spending time with the ladies, partaking in a great laugh, a pleasant lunch, and optimistically taking home the winning ‘pot’ and most of all, Florence looked forward to her daily visits from her son Darren, and frequent phone calls from son Gary, in which she so graciously appreciated.
Florence is survived by her children: Gary (Sylvia) Tucker, Alberta, Jackie (Laurie) Tucker, Alberta, Jimmy (Susan) Tucker, New Waterford, Darren Tucker (Linda), Dominion, and daughter Elaine (Wayne) Bresowar, New Waterford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews; sisters Bev McPherson, Beatie (Tim-deceased) Odo, Linda (Jerry) Wilson, and Susie McPherson; one brother Lornie McPherson (Peggy).
She is also survived by her very dear friends, who were there for her daily, Martha Ropek, Dolly Bailey, Sarah Jane, Wanda Aucoin and Martha Cameron.
Together with her parents, Florence is predeceased by her one true love Jimmy Tucker, a brother Martin ‘ToeJoe’ McPherson, sisters Jessie (Johnie-surviving) McKenzie, Aggie MacDonald, Lorraine (Jackie) MacDougall, Sharon (Bernie-surviving) Ogley, Delores (Joe) Degaque, and two brothers and a sister in infancy.
Special thank you to the amazing doctors and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for being so compassionate, caring and patient to Florence, you really are ‘Angels here on Earth’ and we appreciate each and everyone of you. We would also like to thank Mart, Lornie, Peggy, Beatie, and Suzie for always being with us at Florences’ bedside while in the hospital and during her final days here with us, and to Sammy for always being there, we truly do appreciate all of you.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
