Obituary of Paul James MacArthur

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul James MacArthur, 51 Reserve Mines, N.S. It is with broken hearts and tear-filled eyes that we, the family of Paul James MacArthur, 51, of Reserve Mines, announce his untimely passing on April 6, 2025, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax and raised in Reserve, Paul was the beloved son of Kathy MacArthur and grew up with special father-figures in his life, grandfather – Billy MacArthur and his uncle – Kenny MacArthur. Paul will be deeply missed by all who loved him, especially Yvonne his wife and partner of 22 years and his three beautiful daughters – Rebecca (Kyle), Emma and Autumn as well as his four grandchildren, Ivan, Josie, Zakary and Grace. Also left behind to mourn Paul are his mother, Kathy MacArthur (Leon) and his two brothers/best friends – David (Nichole) and Andrew. Paul shared a very special bond with his uncles - Kenny, Billy and Don MacArthur and a treasured friendship with his sister-like Aunt - Jane MacArthur. He is also survived by the matriarch of the MacArthur family, his grandmother – Edna Marie. Paul is also survived by his parents-in-law, Wayne and Danielle MacLellan and Miriam MacLellan, along with sisters-in-law Sheri and Melissa and brother-in-law Derek MacLellan and special nieces and nephews including Lyla, Brooklyn, Braeden, Chase, Parker and Aviyah. Paul leaves behind many, many friends whom he spent time with, shared interests and made smile. Paul is now reunited in eternal rest with his grandfather Billy MacArthur (Da) - his role model and his grandmother-in-law, Nisha Mullins. Paul was an auto-mechanic by trade. His early years were spent working at Wilson’s Auto in Reserve Mines and later at Breton Toyota where he formed many friendships and served on the Health & Safety Committee. Paul was a family man at heart, and they meant everything to him – he was the Family Mechanic – no one had car issues that Paul would not fix and Kenny always had a partner to do any job big or small whether necessary or not. As a young boy, Paul was a Cub and a Boy Scout where he developed a life-long love of nature and the outdoors. He grew up to be an avid hunter, fisherman, boater, four-wheeler and basically anything that got him outdoors with his girls or his dogs – Max & Elio. He was a generous man and a loving father – his girls were his pride and joy. There were countless outdoor adventures with his girls, including “Name the Roadkill?” while on road trips. Paul was a real romantic at heart, always coming up with ways to show Yvonne his love for her. He was gifted with a great sense of humour and always made those around him laugh. He was generous with his humour and his attention. Paul was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and the sound of his laugh will be dearly missed. Our family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the doctor and staff at the Regional Hospital for their compassion during a very difficult time. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Reserve Fire Hall, Main St., Reserve Mines, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.
