MacPherson and Margaret (Byrne).

From an early age, he demonstrated a deep sense of care and dedication to helping others, a quality that shaped his lifelong career in the healthcare sector.

Wayne began his professional journey at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he worked in the housekeeping and laundry department. Over the years, his commitment and passion led him to various roles within the hospital, but it was his time as a nursing orderly that truly defined him. Known for his compassionate nature and ability to uplift those around him, Wayne provided care and comfort to many patients who fondly remembered him for his kindness and unwavering dedication.

He later worked as a darkroom technician at Community and Glace Bay General Hospital, where he formed some of his closest friendships, particularly within the X-ray department. His colleagues became lifelong friends, and Wayne made a point to keep in touch with them regularly. He also took on the role of the “TV Man” at both Community Hospital and Glace Bay General Hospital, ensuring that patients had access to a little entertainment during their stay.

Wayne was a passionate advocate for workers' rights, holding leadership roles within CUPE and UNIFOR. He believed strongly in fairness and worked tirelessly to support his fellow employees, always holding himself and others to a high standard of integrity.

Beyond his professional life, Wayne was known for his infectious enthusiasm for the holiday season. He had an undeniable love for Christmas, especially when it came to decorating. He took great joy in organizing decorating parties for the X-ray department, ensuring that the festive spirit was shared by all. His warmth and enthusiasm made these moments special for his colleagues and friends.

An avid bowler, Wayne was an active member of various bowling leagues in Glace Bay over the years. His competitive spirit and camaraderie brought joy to those who played alongside him.

Wayne will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a devoted family member, a loyal friend, and a compassionate caregiver whose presence brightened the lives of so many.
