Obituary of Doris Emily Harper

Doris Harper, 82 Glace Bay, N.S. It is with great sadness that we the family of Doris Harper announce her passing on March 12, 2025, in Sydney, N.S. Born in Glace Bay, Doris was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian Seymour. Doris was born and raised in Glace Bay, N.S., then at an early age she moved to Toronto and worked for an Insurance Company before starting her family. She also worked as a superintendent looking after apartment buildings. She raised her three children, Deborah, Greg, and Jeff. Once retired, Doris headed back to Glace Bay, “down home.” You would often find Doris snapping her fingers to a 50’s tune or even dancing! She loved going to the dances! Very seldom would there not be music playing at home. Doris was in an arena quite often cheering on her two boys while they played hockey, and would never miss her beloved Maple Leaf’s and Blue Jays game.. Doris devoted her life to her family and is survived by her daughter Deborah (Steve-deceased) Pierce and two sons; Greg (Cynthia) Harper and Jeff Harper; stepson Howie (Marg -deceased) O’Neill and stepdaughter Donna-Marie (Mike) Catoul, brothers Cliff and Ron, as well as sisters Harriett and Stella. Doris is also survived by nine grandchildren: Brett, Blair, Tamara, Chris, Jeff, Aaron, Kyle, Jacob, and Brooke, as well as three great-grandchildren Landon, Selena, and Palmer. Along with her parents, Doris was predeceased by her partner James O’Neill, brothers Bob, Greg, Art, Doug, Ken, Bill Eddy, and a sister Annie Mae. The family wish is for Doris and Jim to reunite and continue their dance! Doris wishes were to be cremated and visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 1-3 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Special thank you to our hero’s, Dr. McNeill, Dr. Morrison, and Dr. MacDonald and all the nurses at Glace Bay Hospital and Sydney Regional for their compassionate care.
