Obituary for Ruth Frances (Green) Kelly
Today, March 12, 2025, at 11:57 AM, Mum went Home to be with her Lord and Saviour. I sang the hymn Shall We Gather at the River and told her that we would all gather there someday. Her Mumma, Daddy, her sisters, her daughter Lynda, and her beloved husband Al were all waiting for her. As Softly and Tenderly began to play, I told her it was okay to go into the arms of Jesus—and she did. Her passing was peaceful.
Ruth Frances (Green) Kelly was born on December 20, 1923, in Seal Cove, Grand Manan, New Brunswick, to Roberts and Frances Green.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Laura Joyce, Agnes Griffin, and Alice Guptill, her devoted husband Albert Kelly, and her daughter Lynda Clarke.
She is survived by her daughter Angela (Denn) Guptill (Bedford, Nova Scotia), grandchildren Andrew, Don, Michael, Samantha, Stephen, and Deborah, and great-grandchildren Sabrina, David, Cole, Abigail, Alex, Christian, Lily, Autumn, Gregory, Cody, Capri, Payson, Lyra, and Zalah.
Mum served her country during World War II in the Canadian Army and was awarded her service medal in her 90s—an honour she cherished deeply. She was the only surviving WWII veteran at the last Remembrance Day service we attended.
Mum, like all of us, had her flaws, but when there was a need, she was always front and centre. Whether it was her church, missions, charities, or individuals in need, she gave generously and without hesitation.
A celebration of her life will be held at Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, 1215 Hammonds Plains Road, on March 22 at 2:30 PM. The service will be live-streamed at www.hfx.church/live. A private family service will take place on Grand Manan on August 23, 2025.
On behalf of our entire family, I (Angela) extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care for the kindness and compassionate care Mum received since 2019. You all went above and beyond! To our friends and family, thank you for your prayers, visits, cards, letters, gifts, and phone calls over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Ruth’s memory.
