Obituary of Raymond Metcalfe

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our dear Ray at his home in Lower Sackville, NS on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in his 49th year. Ray is deeply mourned by the love of his life Shirley Major, his mother-in-law Theresa Major (partner Garry Gaul) and his sister-in-law Kim (Clarence Shears) Ray was a cherished son of Theresa Metcalfe and the late Wayne Metcalfe. He shared many memories navigating life with his siblings Yvonne Traboulsee, Marilyn (Don Stothart), David, Leanna, Beverly and Greg Metcalfe and will be fondly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends. Everyone looked forward to Ray’s frequent visits back to Cape Breton. Ray grew up in Glace Bay, NS and upon high school graduation he made his way to Halifax. He was employed with GFL Environmental Services where he thrived. He was a dedicated and respected employee, and he made numerous friends at GFL and at customer sites with his genuine nature. Ray and Shirley shared many adventures and lots of laughter over their 14 years together. He especially loved Cuba and would have gone every year if he could. He dearly loved the campgrounds both Ryan’s Ridge and Home Away From Home. He considered his campground friends as his second family. His trips down south and his time at the campgrounds were his happy places. He was affectionately known as Ray Ray or by his South persona Cuba Ray. Ray saw joy in everyday and appreciated the simplest things in life. He cherished his time with friends and family. Whether being an attentive listener or providing gentle support, he had a natural ability to make others feel valued and he genuinely cared. He never was about himself. We now have an emptiness in our lives we never anticipated but are reminded, ‘Those we love don’t walk away, they walk beside us everyday’ He will be missed beyond words. Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life at Ray’s favourite spots at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions to Ronald McDonald House would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
