Nancy Ann Hughes (nee Ford), born on April 5, 1948, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in the VG Hospital in Halifax at the age of 76. A proud daughter of Edna and Ernest Ford, Nancy was raised in Charlottetown, PEI. She was the youngest of four siblings, growing up alongside her sisters Thelma (Bernard) and Gloria (Ryan), and her brother Harold. To her many nieces and nephews, she was an adored aunt who showered them with love and care. Family was everything to Nancy, and she treasured every moment spent with those she held dear. Nancy shared 52 years of love and laughter with her devoted husband, Don Hughes, until his passing from cancer four years ago. The love they shared touched everyone around them and left an enduring legacy. She is survived by her son, Thane, and his wife, Stacey, and their children, Ryley and Theron, who brought her immeasurable joy. Her love for them was boundless, and she was so proud of the family they had created. The joy they brought her was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Nancy’s career in the Prince Edward Island civil service was marked by dedication, kindness, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Working in Land Evaluation and Assessments, she forged lasting relationships with colleagues and approached her work with the utmost professionalism. She took great pride in her contributions and was well-regarded for her strong work ethic and warm heart. After retiring, Nancy found peace in her home on Mount Edward Road in Sherwood, PEI, where her passion for gardening flourished. Her garden became her sanctuary, a place where she could enjoy nature’s beauty and the serenity it brought her. Friends and neighbors were always welcomed with her signature warmth, whether for a chat over tea or simply to admire her beautiful flowers. Her compassionate spirit made everyone feel at ease. Nancy’s love extended beyond her work and her garden. In the last few years of her life, Nancy faced the challenges of dementia. Despite the difficulties, she maintained her remarkable ability to stay happy, gentle, and pleasant. Her infectious smile never faded, and her loving nature continued to shine through, bringing warmth to those around her even in the most trying of times. A private service will be held in Nancy’s honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. Nancy Ann Hughes may be gone from this world, but she will always be with us in spirit, in every kind word, every act of love, and every beautiful garden we encounter. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.
