Obituary of Gordon Michael Kelly
Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon Michael Kelly, 94, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025 surrounded by his children. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gordon spent most of his adult life in Bedford with his wife Maude and their five children.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Maude (Phillips), his parents, Nathan and Vivian (Kenefick), his brothers Everett, Alan, Morton, Eric, Carl, and Kenneth, and his son-in-law George.
He is survived by his children: Deborah, Michael, Colleen (Stephen), Sean (Carol-Anne), and Daniel (Mary Jayne); his grandchildren: Kelly (Daniel), Margaret (Alex), Kerry, Sarah, Curt (Stephanie), Geena (Brandon), Connor, Alanah (Richard), Caitlin (David), Jay (Elizabeth), Nathan, Matt, Alex, Spencer (Hannah) and Logan; and his great-grandchildren: Liam, Mackenzie, Aidan, Aislynn, Cruz and Max. He is also survived by his brothers Russell and Donald, his sisters Patsy, Alice, Doris, and Marie.
Gordon and the Kelly family originated in Fairview, Nova Scotia, where his father, Nathan, started the family business with a fish truck. The Kelly boys expanded into snow removal which eventually grew into G&R Kelly Contracting, a company Gordon successfully ran with his brother Russell. Gordon retired from construction in 1983.
Gordon and Maude enjoyed summers at their summer home in Strathlorne, Cape Breton. They cherished time with family and friends but especially loved time spent with their grandchildren. Gordon was well known to have a delightful, unique sense of humor and dry wit which we all enjoyed so much.
He was a long-time member of Saint Ignatius Church in Bedford and was well-loved throughout the community. Gordon will be remembered as a kind and generous man by all who knew him.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Whitehills Long Term Care Center for their care and compassion.
At Gordon’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has already taken place. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Ignatius Church in Bedford on February 4, 2025, at 12:15 PM, with Father Paul Morris presiding. Reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Ignatius Church or the Parkinson Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
