Earl passed peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Earl is survived by his loving wife Bernadette, his brother Kevin (Heather) : sister Kathy (Michael)Johnston, Nephews Christopher and Ainslie, Ormond and Brandon, Merrill and Melvin Budge Mother-in-law Catherine MacLellan, brother-in-law, Curt MacLellan (Jennifer), sisters-in-law, Danita Brake and Carrie MacLellan (Stephen), Janet MacLellan and niece, Denise (Jim). Predeceased by Parents Howard and Christina (nee Burton) Chaisson, brother Merrill, sister Lorraine Budge and neice, Kimberly Chaisson Predeceased by father-in-law, Francis MacLellan, brothers-in-law, Frank and Andy MacLellan Known for his greatest passion (next to his family), was the love of the sea and fishing. In his early years he fished with his father and grandfather and continued his entire life on the “breaker” out of Dingwall Port. In his hay day there was lobster fishing, mackeral seining, shrimping, sword fishing, jigging cod and the halibut trips to his “honey hole”. A lot of hard work and respect for the sea was a tribute to his success within the fishing industry. Although health issues brought him to Sydney, his weekend visits home and the many fishermen around led him back to the Dingwall wharf, it gave him such joy to meet up with his fellow fishermen for that friendly “chaw” as they landed their catch and headed home for the day. Earl had many special people in his life; his only god child, Charles Curtis, son of Maurice and Sandra Curtis ; “two special girls”… Sonya MacLellan, Bernadette’s niece, who started school in Aspy Bay. He relished playing the father figure role with her, making breakfast, driving her to school and helping her with homework as she lived with them for some time, but as parents know, they grow up and move away and an empty nest occurs. Nicola who has been his daily “ray of sunshine”, cousin Henry’s and Nancy’s daughter, came down over the hill at an early age and enjoyed the antics of playing cards at the kitchen table and of course who was cheating arguments, cleaning up his messes ..sweeping up the shavings from him building traps. He was always proud of her and her accomplishments. Even though Earl knew his time was near, he faced it with courage and dignity, Earl and Bernadette stood side by side and walked the journey together in love and mutual respect. Thank you to all involved in his medical care over the years especially Dr Thana and his dialysis team (his team of angels) the wonderful caring staff of Emergency, ICU, CCU, 4D and Alexa Lillington for the treats and always making him smile on his bad days. Earl also wanted to say farewell to his “dialysis buddies”, Kenny, Allan, Charlie, and Karen. His “Boston families” meant so much to him over the decades, he treasured each and every one of you! “Denise and Kathy thank you for being there for Bernadette throughout this difficult journey…you are both loved so much. I have sailed onward to my final destination and Mom will be greeting me with open arms, hopefully I can stop along the way and catch some halibut for her to cook”. As per Earl’s request, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Aspy Bay. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Renal Dialysis Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital would be appreciated “My Dearest Husband” As we were reunited in life, so shall we be in Heaven …….
