Lorrayne Christene MacQuarrie, RN, 1932-2015
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Lorrayne MacQuarrie (nee McKay) on November 28, 2015.
Born December 7, 1932, in Stellarton, Lorrayne was a daughter of the late Leo and Margaret (Reid) MacKay. She was predeceased by her husband James William MacQuarrie (1996), sisters, Rheta MacKenzie, Margaret MacKay. She is survived by her brother Bud MacKay (Ontario), daughters Karen (Stephen) Sanford, Texas, Susan MacQuarrie, Montreal, Janice (Robert) Hines, Falmouth and Cindy MacQuarrie of Calgary, her seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren as well as brother-in-law Chuck Johnson (Truro). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Lorrayne married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” MacQuarrie and settled in Halifax where they raised their four daughters. Although she enjoyed nursing, her life revolved around Billie, the girls and her grandchildren. She was happiest strolling through the Public Gardens, Point Pleasant Park and the beach, always with a daughter and grandchildren in tow. Many enjoyable trips were taken throughout the years visiting family in California, Montreal and Calgary. She was an avid swimmer, golfer, curler and a most graceful speed skater. Evenings at the symphony and bridge nights with friends were cherished. She had quite a green thumb and an eye for fashion.
A celebration of Lorrayne’s life will be held on Saturday, December 12th at 11:00am at Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Avenue, Halifax. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Auburn Cemetery, Westville at 3:00pm. Donations in memory can be made to the local VON or a charity of one’s choice. Family flowers only.
