David “Dave” Yates, 63, of Hammonds Plains passed away on January 11, 2017 with his family by his side.
Born in St. John’s, NFLD he was the beloved son of the late Richard and Edith (Saunders) Yates.
Dave’s journey began in Newfoundland were his father took him to Sea at the age of 3. His love of the Sea turned into a life long legacy. He worked with off shore oil, Coast Guard, and DND. Dave enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, playing pool with friends and family, and watching the UFC. His favourite words were “My Love” which he fondly called everyone. Dave always had a wonderful zest for life and always wanted to spread his knowledge. There was nothing he didn’t know a little bit about. If you ever wanted a piece of Bubblemint Gum or to know the Lotto 649 numbers, he had you covered!
He led a wonderful life filled with love. His perfect smile instantly warmed the heart of others and was loved by all. Dave loved so much in life but nothing came close to the love he had for his wife Arlene. They never left each others side since they met 33 years ago. His dog Molly was always by his side; she was his baby.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Arlene; son Wayne (Gail); daughter Angie (Graham); loving step mother Alma Yates; mother in law Jessie Dunphy; sisters Ruth (Neil) Hicks, Joan (Bob) Hendricks; step sisters Nathleen (Bob), Beverley (Rick); step brother Leslie (Marie); brother and sisters in laws; grandchildren Amber and Landon; and many nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles and friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his great grandson Jedd.
Dave will be sadly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:00pm in Fairview Cemetery, Halifax.
Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or a charity of choice.
Thank you to the staff at the QEII Hospital, VG site, 5th floor for the loving care Dave received.
Rest in Peace
