It is with heavy hearts we announce that our wonderful wife and mom, Beverlee (Hill) Hendrickson (“Bev”), 77, of Dartmouth, passed away May 22, 2016, after a struggle with cancer. Bev was the daughter of the late Albert and Rubina Hill.
Bev graduated from Kitsilano Secondary School (Vancouver) in 1957 and then went on to get her Political Science degree.
She raised her children in Dartmouth, a city she loved. Bev became involved with the community in various ways. She was the Chairperson for the Dartmouth Natal Day Committee and was the 1st President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Bev was a passionate life-long Liberal. Her political associations and career spanned over 50 years and included working with both Senator Ray Perrault and Senator Jack Austin. Her greatest achievement was being involved with the federal elections and working with the Pierre Elliot Trudeau teams for the winning elections of 1968 and 1972.
She would tell you, however, that her proudest accomplishments were her children, Lori, Peter and Jamie, and she relished in their achievements. Bev was also “Mom” to many people, treating them as her own.
Bev is survived by her beloved husband, Gord Harbottle, her children, Lori Laderoute and Peter (Vicki) Hendrickson, all of Dartmouth, her brother, Peter (Selma) Hill (Calgary), her grandchildren Lisa, Sean, Cameron, Chad and Curtis; great-grandchildren James and Sarah. Bev was predeceased by her son, Jamie.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in memory of Jamie Hendrickson to the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia or Alderney Landing for the refurbishment of the Jamie Hendrickson Green Room.
A celebration of life will be held at the Rotunda at Alderney Landing on Sunday, May 29th from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. In celebration of Bev, we ask that everyone wear bright colours, keeping in mind red was her favourite.
